Following his success at the Northern Ireland heats, Matthew Turtle of O’Connor Kennedy Turtle travelled to London last week to compete in the National Finals of the RICS Matrics Auction competition. The competition is designed for property professionals who would like to try their hand at auctioneering, open to anyone who has not had any paid auctioneering experience from across the UK.
The finals took place at RICS headquarters in London on Monday 16th March, the day commenced with a semi–final round to whittle the competitors down to 4 finalists for the evening event. With the quality of competitors so strong the judges decided to let 5 finalists through, 3 from the novice category and 2 from the informed. Having a panel of judges made up from London’s top auction houses there was a great deal of scrutiny of all the competitors, however with light–hearted questioning and interruptions added in to try and distract the auctioneers. All of the competitors had a fantastic day and gained valuable experience for the next time they step up to the rostrum.
Matthew was awarded runner up in the novice competition where he was commended highly by the judges on a very high quality performance on the day.
